At Fuji Xerox Australia, we are proud to say that we practice what we preach. Evidence of this can be seen in our ninth sustainability report we launched a few weeks ago, which details our approach and success in delivering sustainable practices.

What came through strongly in this year’s report overall was the significant progress we have made in transforming our organisational practices and models to meet the needs of our ever-changing market. In particular, we’ve stepped up our efforts to enhance the customer experience and create a truly customer-centric work culture.

One of the main initiatives we embarked on was our ‘Own Best Customer’ project, which saw our office environments nationally refurbished to reflect the best of Fuji Xerox Australia’s technology, solutions and service offerings.

The aim of this program was to provide employees with the same experience as we deliver to our customers. By using the same solutions as our customers, our employees are able to gain a much better understanding of the efficiencies and benefits that we offer our customers to meet their own business and sustainability goals.

For example, an analysis of the change at our head office demonstrated some great environmental benefits, including:

-  Carbon and energy savings equivalent to 90 few cars on the road for a single year (that’s a saving of over 352,043kg CO2)

-  Solid waste savings equivalent to six fewer garbage truck payloads, or 29,368kg, of waste in one year

Over the past year, we also underwent a significant real estate transformation and made investments in energy efficient lighting upgrades and sustainable design. This was done to ensure that the refurbished sites could achieve a high environmental performance as well as being inspiring places to work. We are also very pleased to see that scope 1 and 2 emissions have reduced by 11 percent as a result of this exercise.

These internal changes have inspired us to continue and improve our work with customers to support their sustainability efforts and ongoing moves to digitisation.

For example, we worked with Cornish College in Melbourne to install a fleet of multifunction devices and software solutions to streamline their operations and management. We have also helped legal firm Norton Rose in Australia to replace the firm’s ageing printer fleet, install new document tracking software, as well as reduce its overall print volumes and the associated costs of printing.

On the supplies side, our commitment to sustainable paper sourcing saw further success, with sales of our FSC, FSC carbon neutral, PEFC certified and recycled papers rising by 32 percent during the 12/13 period. They now account for 99 percent of total paper sales by volume, compared to 67 percent in 11/12.

To build on this success, we will expand our FSC carbon neutral paper range in 13/14 to include both digital and recycled stocks to further support customers in lowering their scope 3 carbon footprint.

These highlights are just the tip of the iceberg; to find out more about our other sustainability initiatives, visit http://www.fxasustainability.com.au/2013/ for the full report. A concise version, focused on Fuji Xerox Australia’s top ten material issues, is available in PDF on the site as well.

We would also be interested in hearing your feedback using the online feedback survey.
